Health Checks

Health Checks are part of the back-bone of good quality preventative healthcare. There is Medicare funding available for a large proportion of patients to access these.

45 – 49 YEAR OLD HEALTH CHECKS

Between the ages of 45 and 49 years old is the age at which, statistically, your health is likely to start showing potential symptoms of long-term illnesses.

At this stage in life, your GP might be in the position to make suggestions that can help prevent you from experiencing many of the health problems faced by your contemporaries later on in life. This coaching involves a 30-minute consultation with our nurse, along with a 15-minute consultation with your GP.

Patients are eligible for this assessment once between the ages of 45 and 49 (inclusive).

OVER 75 YEAR OLD HEALTH CHECKS

A thorough Over 75 health check consists of assessments for your physical, psychological, and social health. It helps health professionals to identify early care needs for patients over 75 years old.

The assessment with our nurse lasts for 45 minutes, followed by an assessment with your GP of 15 minutes. The assessment involves vision and hearing, blood pressure, nutrition, and mental health care questions, as well as other inquiries.

HEALTHY HEART CHECKS

You are able to learn more about your risk of a heart attack or stroke by getting a yearly Heart Health Check from your doctor.

A Healthy Heart Check involves a 30 minute consultation with your doctor, and covers discussion of health and lifestyle factors, as well as a range of tests that will assess your risk factors.

Patients eligible for this assessment include non-ATSI patients older than 45 and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients older than 30.

ABORIGINAL & TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER HEALTH CHECKS

The goal of this health assessment is to reduce the incidence of illness and early death among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by supporting early diagnosis, timely treatment, and intervention for diseases and conditions that may cause morbidity and early death. This health assessment is available to people of all ages.

Eligible patients are entitled to this assessment once every 9 months.

The assessment involves a 30 minute consultation with your GP, whereby they will provide a comprehensive health check, evaluate your overall health, recommend appropriate interventions, and implement a plan.
